Spiritual Subcontractors

Pastor and I love to DIY, and to be honest we are pretty good at being weekend warriors. Despite our best skills, we often face a limit to what we can do, even by law. When this happens we call in the professionals. We sometimes are “sure we could have done that”, but the law requires that a licensed professional pull permits and completes the task. We are ok with this because as soon as they do their part, we are back in the saddle again doing our thing. When we hire and pay these professionals, we do so with the understanding that they are completing what we cannot by virtue of skill, license, or legal authority.

Many find themselves expecting salvation to be this way, a partnership where they subcontract with God to do the things they cannot do by virtue of skill, license, or legal authority. Salvation is not a partnership where God assists you, and God does not enter into partnership covenants. He is sovereign, and the only legitimate covenant contracts are those that recognize Him as Lord. So, the question that must be raised is, “Are you looking for a God, or a spiritual subcontractor?” So, who answers the request of those who only want assistance and not oversight… spiritual subcontractors.

Spiritual subcontractors are dark powers that are more than willing to provide for you their services, all while ensuring your personal independence and leadership. These deceitful entities will provide you several services such as: faux blessings, faux breakthroughs, and even faux revelations all in a transactional environment, for a fee. They will leverage your distrust for authority, your unaddressed baggage, your fears, and your ignorance to provide for you the comfort of buy-now-pay-later. They will exploit your greed, laziness, and even pirate your legitimate dreams to convince you that a covenant relationship is a costly and extravagant upgrade that’s not required. They take time to validate that your shortcut is the result of greater intellect and elevated insight. They spare no expense in entertaining you with fake friends and shallow connections that require more subcontracting services and maintenance, this also includes out of service signs for the bridges that you’ve burned. Showcasing your justification of self-centeredness is one of their greatest product lines and they provide spiritual cover stories free of charge just in case the Holy Spirit tries to “hate” on you with the truth.

Initially I wanted to provide the spiritual consequences as the moral of the story, but most of the time we already know what they are, and we decide to dismiss them. So, I will give the more apparent consequences of dealing with these illegitimate powers. In short, you become ignorant, and you don’t mind. Your thoughts and mindset are so focused on you that you lose sight of the Lord and people. You become a legend in your own mind, finding your presence a privilege to people. People become resources to exploit and leverage, their value is seen only in their benefit to you. Your heart becomes shallow and slowly your supposed cleverness proves points no one is interested in. You find yourself competing by yourself, threatened by others’ strength and offended by anything that does not agree with or praise you. Before you know it, you’re constantly on a stage in your mind performing marvelously for the audience of one; but in reality, people aren’t jealous, they just hate to see you coming. You become transactional and your ability to hold a relationship falters. Sometimes your lonely in a sea of people filled with the haunting whispers of inadequacy and incompetence. This is the fee, your soul becomes a resting place for these “subcontractors” and abuse of your mind, esteem, relationships and soul is the price. They will speak for you, and insist you receive their thoughts about you and all other things. They will empty you of anything that is “true life”, forcing you to settle for faux joy, faux peace.

Christ still is the answer for true relationship and covenant. Resist the subcontractors’ “pitch” for shortcuts. If it sounds too good to be true, with evil it always is. There is no integrity in the evil one and you will never rule over him or be in partnership, to be sure he requires control over you. He will require you to pay more than you intended or can afford. Turn to Christ today as Lord and receive the legitimate covenant relationship and all the true benefits of eternal life and peace.
